Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to store information about your visit. They let sites remember things like whether you're signed in, what language you prefer, or which features you've already seen. We also use related technologies — local storage, session storage, and pixel tags — which work similarly. For simplicity, we refer to all of them as "cookies" in this policy.

Why we use cookies

Cookies help us run SecondLine reliably, keep your account secure, remember your preferences, and understand how the product is used so we can improve it. We try to use as few cookies as possible, and we never use them to track you across unrelated websites.

Types of cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These keep you signed in, balance traffic across our servers, protect against cross-site request forgery, and remember items like your cookie preferences. The Service can't function properly without them, so they can't be turned off.

  • sl_session — keeps you signed in (expires after 30 days of inactivity).
  • sl_csrf — protects forms from forgery attacks (session only).
  • sl_cookie_prefs — remembers your cookie choices (1 year).

Functional

These remember choices you've made — like language, theme (light/dark), and which onboarding tips you've already dismissed — so the app feels personal each time you return.

  • sl_theme — light or dark mode preference (1 year).
  • sl_locale — preferred language (1 year).

Analytics

These help us understand how SecondLine is used in aggregate — which features are popular, where people get stuck, what to improve next. We use privacy-respecting analytics with IP anonymization, and we never link analytics data to individual accounts.

  • _pa_id — anonymous device identifier for usage statistics (13 months).

Marketing

We use a small number of marketing cookies to measure the effectiveness of our ads (for example, whether someone who clicked an ad ended up creating an account). These are set only with your consent.

Third-party cookies

Some features rely on trusted third parties — for example, our payment processor sets a cookie during checkout, and embedded videos may set cookies from the video host. We choose vendors that meet strict privacy standards and we list them in our Privacy Policy.

Managing your preferences

You can change your cookie choices anytime through the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings — most browsers offer detailed controls. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the Service, like staying signed in.

Helpful guides for popular browsers:

Do Not Track

SecondLine respects browser-level "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control signals. When we detect one, we automatically disable analytics and marketing cookies for that session.

Changes to this policy

As we add or remove features, the cookies we use may change. We'll update this page whenever that happens and revise the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes, we'll prompt you to review your preferences again.
